Scarlet Knights Head To Sectional Finals After Beating Belmont, 61-34

Seniors Mello and Lumb lead North Andover to Sunday's Division 2 North finals at Lowell's Tsongas Arena.

It was a tale of two halfs as North Andover High School Girls' Basketball team survived a torrid defense by opponant Belmont in the first 16 minutes to win going away in the second half, 61-34, in the Division 2 North semifinals held at Burlington High School Tuesday, March 5.

The Knight's senior co-captain Michaela Mello scored 10 of her 14 points in the critical third quarter as North Andover (15-8) outscored a error-proned Belmont (13-10) squad, 18-7, to open up a close first half game into a run away.

Fellow senior and co-captain Morgan Lumb was the game's high scorer with 21 points, 15 of those from five three pointers including three in the first half to provide the Knights a 24-22 lead at half-time. Junior forward Mackenzie Mello scored 12 points including going 6-8 from the free-throw line.

Head Coach Susan Breen's team will now wait until Saturday to play the winner of Thursday's game between Wilmington and the state's number-one ranked team, undefeated and defending Division 2 state champions Reading. The sectional championship game will be played at Lowell's Tsongas Arena.
