Roy Oza: Multi-Sport Athlete and Honor Roll Math Student

Roy is this week's Whiz Kid.

Each week, North Andover Patch will profile individual kids, youth groups, teens and even sports teams that wow us with their accomplishments.

Whiz Kid’s Name: Roy Oza

Whiz Kid’s Age: 11

Whiz Kid’s School: Franklin Elementary

Whiz Kid’s Accomplishments: Roy is only 11 and he is already balancing the busy life of a multi-sport athlete and a multitalented student.

Roy currently plays right wing for his North Andover Youth Hockey team and doubles as a shooting guard on his youth basketball team. He is in his third year as a hockey player and fourth as a hoopster.

This spring, Roy is set to enter the AAA Level of North Andover Little League. It will be his fourth year playing baseball in North Andover.  The star pitcher is a solid starter and has the versatility to come out of the bullpen.

The soon-to-be middle schooler even has tennis and soccer experience to add to his resume.

Roy can do a whole lot more than snap a good wrist shot or slash to the hoop for a layup. He doubles as an academic whiz kid as he is currently in his sixth year taking extracurriculuar classes at Kumon Math and Reading Center.  Roy is a proud honor roll math student at Kumon. Math is also his favorite subject at Franklin Elementary School.

After receiving his trophy for joining the Math Honor Roll, Roy was asked about the event and the recognition.

"It was good, but I wish it wasn't in the middle of a Celtics Lakers game," he responded.

Whiz Kid’s Key to Awesomeness: “He really likes to please people,” says his father, Tinu Oza. “He’s always willing to please, be it his coaches, teachers, or his parents,” he added.

This summer, Roy is looking forward to a trip to India. His goal is to witness a live cricket match during his trip. Cricket, India’s most popular sport, is the world’s second most popular sport in terms of the amount of countries that play it. Roy watches it every chance he gets.

Can anyone else sense a future Scarlet Knight?
