Crowds "ooohed" and "ahhhhed" under the ballroom lights as cameras flashed, speeches were given and impecably polished awards were presented.

It wasn't the Golden Globes. Locally, it was much more meaningful.

The Exchange Club of Lawrence -- which encompasses Lawrence, Andover and North Andover -- honored public safety officers Thursday night with an awards dinner.

Firefighters Steve Sentementes, Ryan Nicolosi, Dan Ryan and Jeff Gartside were named North Andover Firefighters of the Year for responding to a cardiac arrest and resuscitating the patient.

"That man made a full recovery and has visited the station," Fire Chief Andrew Melnikas said while presenting the firefighters with the award. "These are the types of stories I like to share."

And Police Officer David Patnaude as North Andover Police Officer of the Year for his quick search and location of a distraught girl in December.
