Patch: How long have you lived in North Andover?
Kathy: When I was born during World War II my father was with the Coast Guard in the Pacific. My mother lived with her parents on Osgood Street. My mother was born in North Andover in 1919.
Patch: What's your occupation?
Kathy: Retired which means Volunteer. I participate in the activities of several North Andover nonprofits including Friends of the Library Book Sale, North Parish Red Bow Fair, North Andover Historical Society Board of Directors, and League of Women Voters Voter Education programs. Did you see my interview with retiring moderator Charlie Salisbury on Cable TV this week?
Patch: What is your favorite part about living in North Andover?
Kathy: All the small town pleasures that still exist here: knowing my neighbors, having relatives living nearby, long term friendships, shopping in a store where the owner knows my name and cares about service, participating in small charities where I can make a difference and eating locally grown vegetables and fruits in summer.
Patch: What is your favorite location in North Andover?
Kathy: My house because it has so much personal family history associated with it. My great grandmother Anna lived here before indoor plumbing, central heating, electricity, or telephones. From my bedroom window I can see the First Burying Ground which marks the location where Andover was founded in 1645.
Patch: What is your favorite memory that took place in North Andover?
Kathy: My husband and I were married in the North Parish church by Rev. David Blanchard on a perfect day in August. Our reception was at my family’s house on Academy Road catered by Nancy Breen. The food was perfection. The champagne flowed. We lived happily ever after.
