Local Student on '29 Who Shine' List

Abigail Chmielecki shines at Worcester State University.

The Massachusetts Department of Higher Education has announced the student winners of the 29 Who Shine awards, which honor one student from each community college, state university and UMass campus in the state, and a North Andover native has made the list.

Abigail Chmielecki is the honoree for Worcester State University. Chmielecki is a history major with a Spanish minor in the Commonwealth Honors Program at that school, and she has been accepted at Suffolk Law School for the Fall 2012 semester.

Chmielecki, who plans to start a career for the state or in a nonprofit organization, has served as a member of the WSU Board of Trustees and the recent the Presidential Search Committee and a member of the Student Senate. She has volunteered at a soup kitchen, has organized care package drives for troops overseas and has collected shoes for “Soles 4 Souls."
