Local Girl Sets Up 'Mitten Trees' to Help Keep People Warm

You can donate mittens, hats, gloves and scarves.

When you go to Jaime's or the Knights of Columbus, you can also help keep someone warm.

Mackenzie Williams of North Andover has set up two trees -- one at each of those establishments -- on which people can leave mittens, hats, gloves ad scarves. The donated items will be given to Lazarus House in Lawrence to help keep people warm who can't afford to buy their own.

This is the third year Mackenzie has had such a tree set up at the Knights of Columbus. And this year, she asked Jaime Faria of Jaime's if she could extend her efforts to his restaurant, and he was happy to oblige.

Every year, thousands suffer illness and in some cases death as a result of cold weather. And this year, weather experts are predicting a colder winter than usual in our part of the country.
