Local club teaches and promotes the endangered sport

Pole vaulting can be expensive and dangerous for schools to participate in, and there are rarely qualified coaches to train. Where there is a high degree of skill involved in the sport the kids often don't have the necessary time to train to much proficiency before the beginning of the track and field season. Many schools these days just choose to forgo participating in the event.

Patriot Pole Vault Club seeks to cure all that ails this rarefied sport and coach Doug is at the center of it. The club provides lots of opportunities for kids from all over New England to train, use proper equipment, and compete.

Coach Doug Lang eats, sleeps and breathes pole vaulting. He competed in high school and college and was the coach at Tufts University from '93-'97. He is now the pole vault coach at Westborough High School and volunteers at UMass Lowell, WPI, and runs Patriot Pole Vault Club.

We checked in with an indoor practice at North Andover High School to see firsthand what goes on at the club.
