High School Bathroom Wall Writing Leads to Threat Investigation

A message was sent out to parents Thursday.

Police and Firefighters responded to what was thought to be a written threat at North Andover High School Thursday. It has since been determined by law enforcement that there is no threat at the school at this time.

At just before 10 a.m. Thursday, school officials were alerted about a message written on a bathroom wall at the high school that could be seen as threatening. Superintendent Kevin Hutchinson did not release details of what the message said.

Police, firefighters and members of the School Threat Assessment and Response Systems Task Force were called to the school to investigate.

Hutchinson said that it was then determined that there was no evidence of a threat to anyone at the school and that students, faculty and staff would be safe.

Here is the full text of the message to NAHS parents from Principal Dr. Carla Scuzzarella"

"Good morning NAHS parents, this is Dr. Scuzzarella with an important message.

In the last hour, a threat written on a bathroom wall was reported to the Administration. We immediately called in the North Andover Police and Fire Departments, as well as the Northeast Mass. STARS (School Threat Assessment and Response Systems) Task Force (of which I am a member). The threat was thoroughly and quickly investigated. It was determined that there was no evidence of a credible threat, and that our students, staff and building are safe at this time. We are in the process of following up on additional information.

If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact me directly."

The last times we witnessed this over reaching wild hysteria.. we imprisoned a completely innocent family operating the Fells Acres Day Care Center and 12 years later tried to lynch a completely guiltless "English Nanny" in Newton. News that is not news should not fan the flames with opportunistic imflamatory headlines.

As a parent of children in the school system I am appreciative of knowing what is happening with them in the environment they are in. I hardly would define this as "over reaching". In the world we live in we need to be proactive. Thanks for reporting.

I'm going to hesitate to contact the principal but I'd like to know some details about this thorough investigation.

After taking the appropriate safety precautions, I'm imagining everyone following the principal into the bathroom and reading the threatening message. Everyone then asks "Is this a credible threat?" If so, I suppose you try to determine when it was written and by whom by starting with who discovered the message and when it was discovered ... But I'm envisioning the thoroughness just involving the reading of tea leaves on the bathroom wall - a better safe than sorry situation.

The "precautions" are so unnecessary...two "bomb" threats in all my four years here...and nothing happened. It's just trouble makers trying to throw people into a frenzy.

I don't like to nit pick, but ... this is not the appropriate time for a communal pressing of "Panic" buttons on ones computer. .. And Ms. Ward.. Your demeanor could be construed to be the essence of a velvet hammer "Bully".
