Election Location Changed

The change comes after the floor in the high school gym is deemed unsafe.

There's a new polling location for this year's elections.

The March 6 presidential primary and March 27 local election polling location will be at instead of the usual high school location.

Selectmen approved the location change Tuesday morning. The change is in which a student at the high school accidentally broke a sprinkler head with a ball, which flooded the high school gym floor.

"After [Emergency Management Director] Jeff Coco and I went and witnessed the damage, it's so close to the election we felt it was safer just to move it to the middle school," Town Clerk Joyce Bradshaw said.

The high school gym floor is still being evaluated, and it is unclear when it will be repaired. The law requires that any changes to the election be made at least 20 days prior to the election, so selectmen had to act quickly.

"We're very fortunate to have such a good alternate location," Bradshaw said of the middle school.

March 6 is a half day for students, so officials do not anticipate many issues with traffic after 10 a.m. But residents are advised to file absentee ballots if they can, to avoid complications with the Kittredge Elementary School drop-off.
