BREAKING: Raff May Be Back

There are reports that the varsity football coach has been offered his job back.

After two weeks of public outcry and a rising movement of support, there are reports that recently-fired North Andover High School Varsity Football Coach John Rafferty has been offered his job back.

The School Department has not confirmed this. But several sources in town have said the school is expected to send out a press release Thursday announcing the decision to bring Rafferty back. The Eagle-Tribune is reporting this as well.

Rafferty was fired in late January without explanation from school officials. Rafferty reportedly told The Eagle-Tribune that it was because he disciplined two students without following protocol.

A massive movement of support for Rafferty started immediately afterward, and on Monday during the School Committee meeting the high school library was packed full of players, former players and other members of the community voicing support for him and outrage at school officials.

If this latest rumor is true - I don't think you should rehire the coach unless the AD (or the AD and the principal) made a "mistake". I can't think of a good reason to make such a mistake. So if the coach is coming back, the AD should go.

The press release should be interesting to say the least.
