A Tewksbury woman was arrested at Market Basket in North Andover just after 10:30 a.m. Friday for allegedly stealing an elderly woman's purse in the store.

Police say Gloria Cimmino, 56, of 128 South St., Tewksbury, stole the elderly woman's purse from her carriage while she was looking the other way.

Cimmino allegedly then took money and a checkbook out of the purse and threw the purse in another aisle.

Another person reportedly saw the theft and notified North Andover Police, who rushed over to Market Basket and arrested Cimmino. Cimmino was taken to Lawrence District Court and charged with larceny from a person over the age of 65 and larceny over $250.

The elderly woman was not harmed and there was no physical contact, police said, and she got her purse, money and checkbook back.
