Food for Fines at the Library

  • December 20, 2010

This annual holiday program gives patrons an opportunity to clear their library records while helping community members.  Through Jan. 17, 2011, the Stevens Memorial Library is accepting food donations instead of collecting fines. All food donated goes to local food  pantries to distribute. There are some guidelines to follow; the most important to remember is a person must come into the Stevens Memorial Library to take advantage of this grace period.

Donations are brought to the main circulation desk or the children's room circulation desk to have your library record updated.

Eligible fines include: current fines for materials returned to Stevens building and older fines on your library record.

Ineligible fines include: late museum pass fees, cost of lost or damaged library materials, and replacement library card fees.

Donations are non-perishable, unopened box or canned foods (no glass). Toiletries are also accepted.

Please check the expiration date on foods; all expired items must be discarded.

The cost of the items donated should approximate the amount of the fines.

For more information, contact the Library at (978) 688-9505, extension 42017
